Championship Mindset Pt. 4
Flexibility
How well can you go with the flow?
It may seem insignificant, but being flexible is such a valuable strength for any organization. Being flexible means that when something unexpected happens that you navigate it accordingly without much stress or discomfort. Flexibility also takes place when you use the BEST idea and not necessarily YOUR idea.
When you are flexible with what is happening around you, you lead in a way that calms everyone else down. When the unexpected happens, everyone takes their cues from the leader. Being flexible allows you to be calm under pressure and allows you to think clearly when an audible needs to be made.
Things happen all the time that affect you and your team; weather, a family crisis, the alarm clock, bad sushi, a vendor issue, Shipping problems, a pain in the rear client, team member disfunction, etc. Are yo prepared for one of the many things that could happen? Do you have the mental capacity to think quickly and effectively when you are under pressure?
Flexibility takes humility. Flexibility also is about using the best idea and not your own idea. This means that the team takes priority over your ego. Ego gets in the way of good teams. If you lead with humility, the team is elevated and there is a good chance you will be more successful together. Leading with Flexibility means that you are good if the team wins. Let’s be honest, the team winning is the only thing that should matter.
Do you lead, TEAM first? Are you flexible enough in your own personal leadership that using someone else’s idea is still a win?
Being flexible as a leader sets the tone for your organization and your team. If the people you work with are always on edge, you may want to take a deep dive in your climate of flexibility. Chances are, people are stressed because the leaders aren’t as flexible as they could be!
