Championship Mindset Pt. 2
Belief
A soft skill that needs to be addressed is “Belief”. The question at the core of this is… Do you believe in yourself? The secondary question which either enhances collaboration and teamwork or causes you to fly solo is…. Do you believe in others? (Which we will get to another time)
One of the ways that we hijack our potential is our belief in our abilities and skill to do the job. Most people are the hardest on themselves and in doing so downplay what they bring to the table at their organizations.
(This isn’t always the case. Let’s be honest, we all had the picture of someone in our minds that does not seem to be hard on themselves or seem to have the awareness that they come across as Gods gift to the entire organization. In fact, you are hoping they learn to be harder on themselves.)
You battle with the inner voice that is telling you that you are an imposter to the job, you can’t actually do this well, you are in over your head and will surely fail. Listening to these voices and dwelling on them will paralyze you and cause you to be ineffective and will inevitably kill your productivity.
Believing in yourself is a choice to be confident and sometimes even courageous with what you are tasked to do. Push past the voices and go after the job. Push through the uncertainty and do your very best. This is a conscious decision that you can make. You may need to write something on your desk, have something that reminds you to believe in yourself.
God has you where you are at for a reason. You got the job so someone had to believe you could do it. Your organization keeps paying you so you have value!
Belief is an internal soft skill to develop and it begins with a choice. Will you give in to the negative inner voice or will you replace it with truth and belief about who you are and what you can do?
***If you are a manager of people, they need to hear you tell them that you believe in them and that they can do it! Coach up the ones who need to grow and empower and encourage the ones who are crushing it. Don’t just assume they know… tell them consistently!
